How to make macros available in Word

using a sample template or document containing the macros.

Installation for Word 2003

To install the Barcode macros you must open the template or document that contains the macros (eg. bmacs2003.dot), then open the Macros dialog from the Tools menu and push the Organiser button.

Now copy the four macros from the bcmacs2003.dot template to either your Normal template or to any special template you wish to define.

Close the Organiser and close the bmacs2003 template. The macros are now available for any new documents created using your chosen template.

Installation for Word 2007/2010

1. Open Word Options from the Office icon (Word 2007) or the File menu (Word 2010).

2. For Word 2007 ensure that the checkbox labelled Show Developer tab in the Ribbon is checked. For Word 2010 select the Customise Ribbon item and ensure that the Developer checkbox is checked.

3. Open the document containing the macros (eg. bmacs2007.dotm) and using the Options button alongside the security warning ensure that "Allow this content" is selected. For Word 2010 just push the button labelled “Enable content”

4. Open a new blank document (which will get the name Document 2) - or one in which you wish to use the barcode Macros.

5. Select the Developer tab above the Ribbon and select the Visual Basic icon.

6. Expand the items in Template Project (Bmacs2007) and Project (Document2)

7. Select the Module1 item in Template Project (Bmacs2007) and while holding down the control key drag it to the Project (Document2) entry.

8. From the File menu choose Close and return to Word.

9. From the Office button choose Save As, and from the drop-down list of file types select Word Macro-Enabled Document (*.docm), and save the document with a suitable name.

Barcode Macros is now ready for use in this document. Selecting the Macros icon on the Developer Ribbon will show that the four macros are present.

If you wish to make the macros available to all new documents select the Macros icon on the Developer Ribbon and push the Organiser button on the Macros dialolg.

The Module1 in the left-hand pane may be copied to the Normal.dotm (global template) in the right-hand pane. The macros will now be available in any new Word document.
